Personal Life.

Samuel Huntington was born July 3, 1731. He was a revolutionary leader from Connecticut. He signed the Declaration of Independence as the Governor of Connecticut. Samuel was the fourth of ten children, and the oldest boy. He went the 'common schools', and then was self educated. At the age of 16 he was an apprentice to a cooper, but he also continued to help his father in farming. Most of his education came from the library and borrowed lawyer books. In 1754 he begain to practice the law. 1761 he was married to Martha Devotion. They remained a couple until her death in 1794. They did not have any children, so when his brother died they adopted their neice and nephew. They raised the two all on their own.
